Back to Agility

Finally...... Back to an Agility Class and Brutus has something productive to do.  It's a more laid back class, 1 dog in the fenced in area at a time, and you can do whatever you want.  One other female dog, Scout, was there when we got there.  Muzzled Brutus and what do you know..... not even a peep out of him.  Right to the fence to visit Scout, and was great the rest of the day.  I guess Brutus has a new girlfriend!

Agility class started great!  Brutus remembered everything.  He had no problem with the jumps and cleared them all the first time through.  He walked the teeter and walk it no problem, jumped through the ring..... everything great!  Unfortunetly...... it was kinda hot and sunny out there, so he tired out pretty quickly, but still proceded to give it his best.  He had a few breaks in the creek that he enjoyed, and cooled off a bit.  Wrapped up the session with some free run time which was LONG over due.  He flew around the grass free as a bird...... !!!!!!!  Great day for him.  He's still huffing and puffing... but still not too tired to bark out the front house windows at passerbys!

Brutus peeks out door

So Brutus has so mant issues with people walking by and fur going past the front window that I now stooped to the cardboard in the window.  The door... only partially open because he likes to pound on that too.  As you see... he is still trying to peek out!

You are suppose to be IN the cage not ON the cage !

So this is where Brutus ends up when someone, especially a dog walks by our window.  I thought by putting his cage in front of the window that it would keep him from growling out the window.... boy was I wrong.  Who knew that a 106 pound Rottie could be so agile!!!!!

Ear Infections & L-Theanine

Been a long time and have been struggling with Brutus and ear infections.  The week before his neuter he was at the vet for his vaccines and a left ear infection.  Ear was treated and then his right ear became infected.  Used the tri-otic for the right ear with no success.  Back to the vet and was found to have both yeast and cocci bacteria in his ears.  The left ear once again became infected.  New medications..... 2 meds, 1 hour apart, twice a day for 21 days.  A nightmare of cleaning and struggling with Brutus!  Back to the vet again... because after a week, no improvement.  Cleaned ears, exam, a shot for swelling and back to the 2 meds.  Wow.... is this ever going away??????

Some new news..... started Brutus on L-Theanine.  100 Mg twice a day.  L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea leaves, and is used to reduce mental and physical stress. It raises dopamine levels, and is believed to raise serotonin levels. It is also being studied to determine its ability to promote greater concentration and alertness.  It should be used for at least 60 days. It is marketed as being especially helpful for dogs with fear-related behaviors, especially in the presence of other dogs or people, and their studies have found at 60% reduction in the intensity of anxiety symptoms.  Hopeful that I will see some good results in a few weeks.

Day after Neuter

Brutus is doing much better today.  He is definatly taking it easy compared to his "normal" self.  He started his antibiotic and pain meds this morning.  His appetite is back to normal too.  He is moving around a lot better too, although you can definatly tell his hind end is sore.  His butt is looking quite funny, not only are things missing, but its shaved too!  :)  Today he even attempted to play with Bailey although you can tell it's much more subdued than usual.  He has started jumping on the chair again to look out of the window, and I've even heard him bark a little today too.

According to a response on the Rottweiler forums.... neutering at 15 months should not  affect his size or maturity.  Neutering after 12 months MAY decrease his chance of developing bone cancer. Intact or neutered, this breed is very prone to bone cancer, so we have to just keep our fingers crossed that Brutus has a long and wonderful life!

Also heard that I should know in about a week or so if the neutering has helped calm him down.

Brutus post surgery

Post surgery

SO...... Brutus is home safe and sound. He's got the sad eyes in this picture I took when he came home. He's still pretty wiped out, groggy, tripping over his own feet, and walking on a slant. He did eat and drink since he got home. Sleeping downstairs with him tonight so I can check on him.  Tomorrow he starts on antibiotics and pain medicine.  Check up in 2 weeks.

Surgery Today

Well today is the day!  Brutus will be at the vet by 9am to get ready for his big surgery.  He'll be getting neutered today.  I got very little sleep last night and was up before 5am......thoughts of today kept running through my head.  I can't wait till this is all over and he's safe and sound back home.  He should be home between 3-6pm tonight..... hopefully everything goes well.

Brutus & his chick-a-dee's

Company for Brutus

Brutus has company for 8 days!  My fur nieces, Bailey and Darby, joined us yesterday afternoon.  I was very stressed about the initial meet and greet.  Although Brutus was at their house a couple months ago, he's been acting so flakey latey I didnt know how things would go.  I was hoping dogs remembered each others smell, and I guess they did?  I'm going to ask his trainer today on that.  He also has no issues with my brother, his kids, or Amy..... who he has some issues with last they met.  Hopefully he keeps this attitude up for our week vacation at their house in Ohio next month!

There is loads of romping, rolling and leaping going on at the house.  I've got a black and blue foot to prove it.  A 106 pound dog running across your foot is not pretty.  Nor is it when he leaps onto your lap!

Feeding time is tricky.  Have to seperate everyone so they don't each others food.... or get in any fights.  Last 2 feeding Brutus hasn't even finished all his food.... too woried about what the ladies are doing.

Everyone once and a while I seperate Brutus from the ladies, just so everyone can get some quiet nap time in, and the ladies have no problem making themselves home on the couch or loveseat.

Overnight went well.  Brutus snored away in his cage last night, the girls stayed in the living room, and Noah in the other room.  The cats wander downstairs in the evening when Brutus is crated, so I decided to keepthe girls in the front room only.  They only barked twice last night, probably when the cats made their way down.

They were very happy to see me in the morning..... smiling and nubby wagging.  Brutus was happy to start the day all over with his new playmates.  Noah could care less.... he's in his own bubble.

Today Brutus has an Intermediate Nosework class. Today it's at the Bloomsburg Elementary.  A little more work because we need to take his crate with us because it will probably be too hot for him to stay in the car.  Also need to 3 enviromental items from our house, to mix in with the search area.  We missed the last class and practice, so I feel like we are a bit behind.  Should still be fun!

This is a happy boy between 2 lovely ladies!

Vet Visit, June 27, 2011

Brutus had a regular wellness vet visit. He had these vaccines: DHPPV,  Kennel Cough, and Rabies.  He was 105.6 pounds, so his weight gain is definatly slowing down.  Everything looked good except for a ear infection in his left ear.  He got some new medicine for that since his previous meds weren't working for it.  It was a rough visit since he has become pretty nasty towards other dogs he doesn't know.  Also wasn't crazy about the vet tech.  I did muzzle him for the vet visit.... a first for him.  Previous picture shows him in it.

Yesterday I ordered a new basket muzzle for him for future vet visits and some outdoor adventures that it may me necessary for.  Not sure how much he will like it, but he's going to have to adjust to it.  He'd definatly going to look like Hannibal Lector in this..... and will probably scare the crap out of strangers!  Better to be safe than sorry.

On a brighter note..... tomorrow is doggie swimming !!!

Agility Certificate

Final Agility class was pretty tough.  We ran the complete course 3 times each.  We weren't able to run it without a leash, but we made it through with one on.  He still needs loads of practice. He doesn't really care to pay attention to me without the leash.  He just starts roaming around.  Luckily, this is just for fun!  No competing for us.  I just think it's great exercise and mental stimulation for Brutus.  Guess we will be signing up again in the fall for another shot at this!

Brutus & Tess swimming

This was Brutus's first shot in the pool at  Wagging Tail Doggie Day Care He was working hard and had this "what's going on?" look on his face.  Tess had a blast doing all sorts of jumps.  She's a pro!  I liked the one point in the video when Brutus was following her..... but then got snagged back by Silke to continue swimming.  By the end of the swimm he was jumping in himself.  Can't wait until Thursday to take him again!

Swimming Pictures from 6.11.11

Brutus, the big log, attempting to get out of the pool.  Needs some practice with this.

Brutus pulling Silke back to the ladder.  Rescue dog in training!

Can't decided..... which way should I go, ladder????  Ramp???

Brutus swims (2)

Brutus swims

Had an awesome time watching Brutus swim today. It was his first deep water swim since being a puppy. He was a little hesitant at first, but eventually he was jumping in himself to fetch toys. His crush, Tess, was swimming too...... think he was showing off for her. He made me so proud! I'm taking him again on Thursday since he had such a good time.

Sharing a web site

Passing on this awesome doggy supply store that Brutus' trainer, Silke, shared with me today...http://www.cleanrun.com/  I  L-O-V-E the stuff on here!  Just ordered a Kooling collar, pack of icee refills, and 2 Tabs (mini leashes) that I'll use at agility classes.  Thanks Silke!  So much more I want to......

5th Agility Class

Sunday we had our 5th Agility class..... only one more to go!  It went well.  We started a little later, so it wasn't a hot mess like last weekend.  Overall he did really great.  He has no fear doing the teeter, and he's getting much faster at everything.  Weave Poles are still a challenge.  The ramp was highered, and he had no proble or fear going over it.  He was very good with the other dogs and wasn't reactive to them at all.  I guess he is now familiar with them, so he's a good boy. Next week is our finally class.  The plan is that we are going to get a paper with a diagram of the course we are suppose to run.  We will then be inside the fenced agility area alone, and one dog will run at a time.  She also expects us to do the run without a leash for a beginners agility?  I just don't see this happening with Brutus.  First off..... we haven't attempted anything  off leash yet.  The closest we came to that was dropping the leash while he jumped through the tire and tunnel.  I think this is way too early , in a  beginners class to expect off leash.   I'll give it a try, but don't have high hopes of success.  Don't get me wrong, Brutus does awesome at nearly every station, but without practicing off  leash, I can't imaging doing the whole course, cold turkey, no leash.  I can't believe how fast these classes went!

A small glimmer of hope today...... A lady walked a Beagle passed our fence today and Brutus didn't flip out into his "I'm so bad" personality..... although he did bark twice when they were nearly at the end of the yard.  When this happens... it's a good day as far as I'm concerned!

Saturday we begin our intermediate NoseWork Class. Will to have to lug his crate with him for these 6 classes. The weather no longer will allow me to keep him in the car while he waits his turn.

Brutus will also get his first swim on Saturday after class in the doggy pool.  Can't wait to see his reaction.  Photos and videos will be coming... for sure!

14 Months old today

Today Brutus is 14 months old!  Couldn't plan a great day for him since the temp is around 90 degrees.  He's much happier just staying indoors.  I must say, although he's still a handful when it comes to other dogs and strangers, indoors he has been much more relaxed and spending all of his time with free roam of the downstairs.  I'm considering a test run or removing the gate seperating my two rooms downstairs.  He still has some issues with taking thinks that don't belong to him, especially my slippers and sneakers. He definatly knows hes not suppose to take them and runs in to proudly show... or prove.... to me that he can.  He enjoys pushing my buttons when I'm not giving him my complete attetion.  Also still having a problem keeping him off the counters.  He's absolutely drives nme crazy with the counter surfing!  He especially likes to shread the paper towels.  Not bothering Noah as much, but still likes to aggravate him, and bite his back legs.

Still have two more agility classes to go.  Hopefully she will schedule some sort of practice sessions, or and intermediate classes.  I'm really going to miss this class.  Brutus will begin his intermediate NoseWork class on June 11th.  Also has his first K9 swim at the wagging tail dog daycare  right after class. http://www.waggingtail.net/swimming.htm   It's been a full year since he swam in deep water so I'm curious how he will act.  The last time he was swimming, as you can see in the picture, he was still small enough to carry in the pool!

4th Agility class

Hard to believe how quick Agility class is going.  Just 2 more!  Last night was extremely tough.  Even with an hour later start, it was way too hot and sunny.  I was dying!  Brutus was dying!  He still did great considering how how it was.  Near the end he wanted to give up, but pushed on.  He got 2 dips in the little creek thats nearby.  Seemed to really enjoy it.  We basically practiced everything from the other classes and also started the Teeter.  Surprisingly, he did great on this too.  Wasn't scared of it at all.  He was very happy to finish class, and was happy to get back to the car, and back home in the AC!

Brutus watching the ferret

Caught Brutus on tape watching my ferret, Fizzle. He does this every once and a while. He got a few sniffs and licks in. Even tried to touch her with his paw once, which was adorable! Thought maybe he liked her, but when I got her out he practically attacked me. I thinkl she looks too much like a toy to him!

Brutus at agility (8) 5.22.11

This is the first attempt of the Chute Tunnel. Right now the chute is mostly rolled back. Eventually it will be stretched out, and lay flat, not letting the dog see the other end. So far he went through with no problem. Not so sure about how he will do when it's laying flat on the ground. Can't wait until class on Sunday!

I've also decided to use/save all my profits of Spoiled Rotten! Homemade Dog Treats, for more classes for Brutus!

Tuesday's Walk

Brutus had his longest walk on Tuesday.  He (and me, lol) made it 4 miles.  He did great and seemed to enjoy it!  He was very well behaved and walked nicely.  He walked with 5 other people that he hadn't met before, and didn't have any attitude with them.  He's is still having temper issues with some strangers, but did very good on his walk.  Can't wait to recover so I can take him again!

Brutus at agility (7) 5.22.11

Very quick video of Brutus running the ramp. He loved this ramp. He was actually trying to run this ramp even when I wasn't asking him to. Can't wait till Sunday when they higher the ramp. Right now I think it's only at 3 feet. I'm curious to see if he will still be as willing when it's higher!

Weighed today

Decided to take Brutus down for a weigh in.  He weighed in at 104.8.  Just a little over a 1 pound gain.  I thought that he would have gained more, but I guess that last pounds he put on will be slow and steady,

Brutus at agility (6) 5.22.11

Brutus doing the "walk it." Awesome job for a big dog. The difference between last week, to this week was remarkable. This week he just went for it! Amost had to slow him down... Can't week till Sunday to see what he does this week.

Brutus at agility (5) 5.22.11

Brutus does a great job on the tunnels.  Now this time, the tunnel was stretched a little longer, and had a slight curve to it.  He was a little unsure the first time because he wasn't able to see out the other end.  Because he is big, he also tends to get caught up at the beginning of this tube.  Next time I have to remember to hold it still BEFORE he attempts to run through.  He still did great!

Brutus get a gift from Mommy

Went to Boyer's again today, on my daily search for Marrow Bones.  Some days they have them, som the don't.  Well lately I haven't been able to get any.  My stock pile was nearly gone.  Once again, nothing in the meat section.  Then I got smart!  I asked the guy in the meat department if he had any marrow bones in back.  He did!  And not only did he have them, but I was able to buy a 30 pound box of them and they gave me them for like $1.29 a pound!  So as you can see, the box of bones is AWESOME!!!!  He said I can stop in a week ahead of time, ANY time, and order a box.  Boy will this save me a lot of trips to the store.  And as you can also see...... Brutus helped himself to a bone!

Brutus barks at the rain

Just had a heavy rain storm and Brutus decided to watch and bark out the window at it. He's so cute!

Brutus at agility (4) 5.22.11

Brutus jumps through tire and runs through the short tunnel. Hard to believe that the first time he attempted this tunnel back in trick class, he wanted no part of it. I brought home a large box from work and practiced having him walk through that. He's a champ at the tunnels now!

Brutus at agility (3) 5.22.11

This is Brutus practicing the weave poles at his 3rd Agility class. Maybe one day he'll look like the dogs on tv zipping right through them. As of right now, I think I'm the one who needs practice with this one!

Brutus at agility(2) 5.22.11

Another view of the jumping hurdles.

Brutus at agility (1) 5.22.11

Had a wonderful time at Agility Class today.  My boy made me so proud !  I can not believe the improvement he had made in just 3 classes.  He seems to be really catching on to what he's suppose to be doing now, and  seems to enjoy it too.  I got a lot of great video clis to show off.  I'll be posting one or two every day, since I do have about 9 clips.  This video is the jumping hurdles.  As you see, he jumps every hurdle.  A big difference from his first class..... although he had no problem jumping, he occasionally tried to go around the jumps.  Now he does a straight shot down.  So, so, so, so proud of him!!!!!!

Ice, Ice Baby

Who would have ever thought that Brutus would think a bag of ice was a toy!  Threw an old bag of ice out the basement door to make room in the freezer.  Wouldn't you know that Brutus would think it was a toy.  He was running up and down the stairs with it, then scratching at the door to come in the house with it.  I emptied the bag over the banister, and of course, then retrieved the biggest chunk that was left.  Caught this adorable picture as he was trying once again to get in the door, this time with the ice chunk!

Monday, NoseWork Practice

Brutus had fun and did great at NoseWork practice tonight.  He was relaxed and anxious to work.  He had some hard hides, and found them all.  His best finds were in the office area, which was a new search area, in an office drawer, and inbetween a bathroom door that was cracked open.  I'm so proud of my little boy!  Practices are finished until the second week of June.  Intermediate class will also begin around the same time.

Sunday, 2nd Agility Class

Had a great Agility class on Sunday.  Brutus did great!  Had some nice video of him, but unfortunetly something went wrong when I tried to upload my video.  We reviewed last weeks tasks, which he did great at.  He's becoming an expert at tunnels!  Also began the weave poles, which he did better each attempt.  He went up and down the ramp (lower level) no problem.  Took a little effort on the elevated ramp/plank walk... which is about 12 inches wide, 3-4 feet off the ground.  Also sat like a champ on the Pause Table.  I love this agility!

Brutus attacks himself

More of Brutus's mirror issues. He now attacks himself after seeing his reflection in the oven door. Or maybe it was because I had a batch of Spoiled Rotten Homemade Dog Treats...Vegetarian ... baking in the oven. He can't wait for them to finish cooking!

Brutus....his Mirror Issues

Brutus is so tough he scares himself! Using this small mirror, I'm begining to desensitize Brutus to his reflection. He doesn't seem to get quite as worked up as with the full size mirror.

NoseWork Practice

This was NoseWork Practice in Turbotville. The day turned out to be ok.... at least this time it wasn't raining. The dogs each had time to do nine runs, plus three runs outdoors. Brutus did pretty good again. He did get a bit sidetracked on his one run..... checking out the whole space. Then he came across a huge mirror.... which I hadn't even noticed the last time we were there, nor did he! Of course he would find it this time..... He freaked out at himself again! Put the tough guy act on again. Nearly knocked the mirror of the wall. He was unleashed and I was having a hard time hooking him up. Obviously, the issue wasn't a one time think. Silke suggested that I get a small mirror and start desensitizing him to mirror, Again, it's all his raging testosterone.

He was able to do three runs outside, which is new to him. We've only did this once before. He was extremely quick at these three runs. All three runs were using open cardboard boxes, with access to the find.

We had a great time! Always fun to watch all the dogs work, and the slightly different approaches they take.

Brutus Has Issues...... With Himself!

Well just found out the other day that Brutus has issues...... with himself!  Took him for a walk a few days ago.  He did great!  Walked extremely nice with the gentle leader on.  We didn't go really far, because it was kind of on the warm side, and he's not crazy about the heat.  Just 1 block from home, we stopped at a red light.  Brutus layed down, trying to push the gentle leader off his nose.  When the light turned, we proceeded across the street.  A guy sitting on the porch comment on how it was cute how we was laying down, pawing at his nose.  I explained that he was just trying to get the gentle leader off.  The guy asked me if Brutus was friendly.  I was just begining to give him the "he's sometimes unsure of strangers" speech, when Brutus put on his tough guy act.  Grrrr.... WOOF WOOF WOOF.....  Lunging forward..... the guy jumped back. I guess after the little show Brutus put on he figured he didn't need me to answer.  Then I realized that we were standing in front of a huge mirror.  He was posturing to himself.  I guess you really are scary if you can scare yourself!  I only wish I had video of that.  I'm even considering getting a large mirror to try it again!

Today we are off to Turbotville for NoseWork Practice.  Just had a down pour..... so hopefully we are finished with the rain for a few hours.  Last time we were up there it was miserable too.  It was cold, rainy and  windy .  We were all soaked from going in and out of the car.

Brutus Digging again

More of Brutus digging! Seems to be a favorite past time. I just filled this hole in and he dug it out again. Think he wanted this hole to lay in and stay cool. Love his dirty face! Love the picture quality of my new FlipCam.

Second Fear Period

This is some info Brutus's trainer sent me on his attitude towards some people.

Second Fear Period
6 to 14 months

In large breeds this period could extend longer since it is tied to sexual maturity. Incidents may occur more than once.   Incidents of teenage flakiness may recur J.
Corresponds with growth spurts. Therefore it may happen more than once as the puppy matures.
May suddenly be apprehensive about new things or shy or timid of new people or situations. Most of height growing is over, but pup will start to fill out over the coming year.
Puppy begins to mature sexually: male begins to lift leg, and female has first heat period anywhere from 6-12 months. Puppy coat being replaced by adult coat, starting down the spine.
This is a fear of new situations and are handled with the utmost patience. The dog is encouraged to work it out on his own. If your puppy appears apprehensive, avoid confrontation. Build confidence through training.
Avoid any potentially overwhelming circumstances you cannot personally oversee, such as shipping your pup in the cargo bay of an airplane.

K-9 Refresher Class

Tonight was the K-9 Refresher class.  It went great.... no problems either.  Reviewed loose leash walking, plus learned some new practice techniques.  Also tethered the dogs, and taught them to stay relaxed while not paying attention to them.  Had other class members approach and treat dogs if they stayed in the relaxed position.  Come when called, on a long line..... I love this... because Brutus gets so excited when he's running back to me and looks so happy.  Of course I have to be careful he doesn't plow me over!

Silke said that she doesn't believe I have to muzzle Brutus.  That I, as the owner, have to be more forward in telling people not to approach Brutus at this time.  Tell them he doesm't care for strangers approaching him.

Kyler and I got some more of the fence finished today.  Tomorrow we will complete it.

Began my fence extension to keep Brutus in!

This is the fence extension that me and Kyler put up yesterday.  We aren't quite finished yet......   need to visit Lowes today for more poles and wire ties.  I have the other side of the yard to finish, and the gate.  Hopefully this keeps him in!

Brutus jumps the fence

Ok.... so this is why I need a fence extension.  This is Brutus after he jumped into my neighbors yard.  He's done this 4 times since last night.  This morning he had me chasing him around the yard for 1 minutes until I caught him and dragged him back to his own yard.  Today, I threw a handful of bones in our yard.... and this is him jumping the fence back into his own yard.

Brutus squeaking ball

Brutus LOVES to run in Granny's yard.  He had a great time on this day..... playing all by himself with the ball.  He had a blast squeaking it.

Brutus giving Abby a Kiss

Brutus giving Abby a great big kiss!  Another great shot my brother took while we were in Ohio.

Agility Class

Today was our first agility class.  It was actually pretty fun.  I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would... although I'm not really a runner.  Brutus had fun too.  He did great!  He did much better than I expected.  We practiced jumping.... which we have had a little experience with.  Also did the tire jump.... which is basically a hanging hoop they jump through.  We did 2 tunnels..... one was the hard plastic tunnel, which we did in trick class, and the other was a longer tunnel.  I was surprised how quickly and easily he went through the barrel.  I thought maybe he would need a bit more coaxing, since we haven't been practicing regularily.  I was shocked that he went through the long tunnel..... and easily!  Also walked on a long plank, that will eventually be elevated off of the ground.  Lastily, he had to jump on a platform stand, and sit/stay.  There were at least 2 people that were there that weren't actually crazy about my Rottweiler.  Brutus went towards the one lady's dog, and she actually screamed... and ran... like he was attacking her.  I was pretty proud of him considering everyone was expecting the worst from him..... and turns out some of the other dogs behavior was a bit snippy.  Then...... after class, the one helper came up to Brutus and was petting him, his face area, staring at him, and he got weird with her.  Gave her the stink eye, barked and lungged.  Hmmmmm.... starting to think he has some issues with the starting thing from certain people.  Think I'm going to have to stop letting strangers approach him in that manner.  Felt bad after the incident.... I guess everyone was thinking "I told you so."

Tomorrow we have a refresher obedience class in Bloomsburg.  Definatly need to discuss todays incident with his trainer and get some suggestions.  Maybe I need to muzzle him in some public situations.... so he doesnt get a record.

Also started my fence extension today.  Looks much better than I expected.  I would have finished, but didn't buy enough poles, and ran out of wire ties.  Will post some pictures tomorrow.  I think this will keep Brutus from jumping the fence.  It better !  He jumped twice today  while we were working on the fence on the neighbors side.  He was chained so it wasn't a big deal, but still not happy about it.  I'm sure he wouldn't have jumped if we hadn't been in the other yard, but it's still unsettling knowing he can, whenever he wants.  Guess we just started the fence extension in time!

Back to the crate Downstairs

Set up a crate in my bedroom for Brutus.  Have been feeling guilty about having him sleep downstairs.  Thought I'd try the second crate in my room, since I have 2 extra large crates.  Well...... it lasted about 5 minutes.  He was barking and carrying on at the cats, who spend the evenings in my room.  He wouldn't relax.  Wouldn't lay down.  Wouldn't calm down.  Just seemed all out of sorts..... so back downstairs to his crate, where he seemed much happier.  I may give it another shot tonight, but doesn't look to promising.  He also began whining the last two evening at 3:30am.  Not sure whats going on there.  He usually sleeps all night, and snores all night!

Today is our first agiligy class at 5:00 pm.  Can't wait to see what happens with this!  Should be amusing!

My what a big nose you have!

Brutus eating ice cream

Let's just say ice cream was a big hit with Brutus.  He LOVED it!  He was so serious when he was eating it, like he was concentrating.  When he finished, he kept jumping up on me to try to get the empty cup.  Yeah for Pepe's Puppy Bowls!

Title came in the mail today!

Well, as you can see, Brutus's Novice Trick Dog Title arrived in the mail today!  Had the mistake changed on the web site from "breed not specified" to "Rottweiler".  Now, another achievement award to put with his collection!  Yes, his full AKC name is Brutus Jack.  His dads name is Arney Jack, so I game him his daddys last name.  Not very original, but I'm a normal, plain, boring kinda person I suppose!

Brutus at nosework practice

Brutus & Nathan playing soccer

Here's a short video of Brutus and Nathan playing soccer.  Or maybe it's Nathan trying to play soccer and Brutus bugging him!  Also wanted to post a short video of Bailey playing with the Buster Cube, but after reviewing the video, I noticed that Brutus was kind enough to walk into the shot, lift his leg, and pee on the rock.  Thanks Brutus!

Love this picture of Brutus

Brutus & Bailey

Name listed on Dog Trick web site

Well, Brutus's Title is in the mail.  Our name is now listed on the web site http://domorewithyourdog.com/pages/trickdogtitle.html  We are listed at the bottom, novice tricks, under breed not specified.  This was clearly a mistake, because I know for sure I listed his breed.  I did contact them and hopefully they will correct this!

Nosework class was great.  Brutus did awesome.  Found everything tonight rather quickly.

Everyone loves Brutus

This is a picture my neice Isabel made me.  She's quite talanted!  Had a great weekend at my brother's house in Cleveland.  For the most part, Brutus behaved.  He didn't pee on the floor at all, so that was a plus!  He had a great time with his doggie cousins, Glacier, Bailey, and Darby.  He had extra fun with Bailey, who he ran and chased with all weekend.  He will get another chance to play with him  in July when Bailey and Darby will be having a week long sleepover.  I'm sure he will have loads of fun!  Brutus was totally exhausted after this fun filled weekend.  He slept the whole ride home in the car, and was wiped out the remainder of the night when we got home.  Have picure and video to post, hopefully later tonight.  Tonight we are off to Nosework practice.  He's been on a week long break.  Sunday he begins his first Agility class.

Brutus has fun in a mud hole today.

All that rain last night turned Brutus's digging hole into a mud hole.  Chained him outside, came back for him in  a few minutes, and this is what he looked like.  A muddy mess when he's going to be in the car for 5 hours for a trip to Ohio.  To make matters worse, I'm sick as a dog, and really didn't feel like hosing down a muddy dog right after I got a shower.  He really HATED the hose, and kept getting away from us and back into the mud.  Eventually we got him clean enough to make the car drive tomorrow.  Just having a hard time figuring out how to keep him out of the muddy mess for the rest of the night!

Brutus splashing in the pool

Pulled out the doggie pool today since it was so nice and warm! Think I may need a bigger one this year!

Brutus checking out the neighborhood

Brutus checking out the neighborhood.  He really enjoys standing up on his hind legs and looking out of the yard.  He's nearly as tall as me when he stands up.  Since he's a awesome jumper, you can see why this fence won't hold him back if he doesn't want to.  He's so spoiled, he'd be making a BIG, BIG mistake leaving here!  Hopefully next year I can invest in a new fence, or at least some sort of extension on height for my current one.

Is this not the cutest face ever??

Another great picture of Brutus enjoying the sunshine.  I just love when he tilts his head when I talk to him.  He is the cutest Rottie ever!

So tired after digging this big hole!

Got a few nice pictures od Brutus outdoors today.  Got lucky with this yawn.

Brutus digging a hole

Brutus is digging a hole to China! It's about 8 inches deep now. Soon time to fill it in and let him start over before he ends up digging up someones pet! Yuck!

Agility set up.... Brutus starts class in may

This is a partial view of the agility set up Brutus will be starting on May 8th.  It's called Flying High Agility Class.  The instructor is Marsha Vesnefskie.... she is the trainer he had for his first 2 obedience classes at Petsmart.  She is doing this class on her own, at her home in Paxinos.  Look forward to getting Brutus out there for some socialization and exercise!

Brutus & his Easter basket

I  probably shouldn't have gave Brutus his Easter Basket until after he ate his food. He was only worried about the basket. He ate one bone, played with a few toys that we opened, and eventually decided to eat his food! Just like a little kid!

First Easter Basket

Brutus LOVED his first Easter Basket!  Already ate one bone.

Sixth nosework class (6)

A quick Easter Egg run, hidden behind a box.

Sixth nosework class (5)

Another Easter Egg run..... he got a little side tracked during this one, stopped to play with the eggs a little, but found the hide, which was elevated this time.

Sixth nosework class (4)

This was his first run with the hide being in an Easter Egg.  He smashed one to pieces, but found the prize rather quickly.

Sixth nosework class (3)

This was our first "blind hide," where the handler does not know which box the hide is in.  The box is taped shut, and no access to the food in the container.  One run he found pretty quick, the other teo runs took a little more time, but he worked it out!

Sixth nosework class (2)

In this run, the hide was under the container.  There was no access to the food, it was in a sealed container.  He found this quickly.

Sixth nosework class (1)

In this run, the hide of blue cheese was in a small magnetic container, stuck to the side of that box.  I wasn't sure if he would find this, but he made me proud and found it rather quickly!

Sixth NoseWork Class

Today we attended our sixth Beginners Nosework Class.  Our final class of the course.  We've already signed up for the Intermediate class.  Brutus always has so much fun working at this class.  He's always worn out on the way home, and usually for a while after we get home.  Today we worked on some variations of things we already done.  Hide being  under objects, at heights and also in a magnetic container stuck on the side of a box.  We also did a blind hide.... where the handler doesnt know which box it's in, boxes taped shut.  We had a hide, which is appropriate for thie weekend, in Easter eggs!  Brutus had fun with these, thinking these were play toys.  Smashed one into pieces!  He did well with these runs.  Overall he did great today.  He had one or two runs , in the sealed boxex, that took a bit longer, but he did work it out.  We did a few runs outside for the first time.  Back to basics with these run..... open boxes.  These 3 runs he found quickly.  He was happy to see his doggie crush, Tess, and can't wait to video tape them together next time!  Next, I'm off with Brutus to check out an agilty class, an openhouse with his previous trainer.  Sure he would love to do this too!  Video's coming soon....

He did it!

Ok.... so Brutus passed his 101 Dog Trick class.  This is his Achievement Certificate.  He had a great time tonight, although it was a lot of effort keeping his attention.  Anything that he does at home easily, is 10 times harder with the distractions of other dogs.    These are the tricks he did :  Back up, Crawl, Doggie Push Ups, Down Jump through Hoop, Jump Over Bar, Kisses, Place, Shake Hands, Sit, Spin, Stay, Bow, Tunnel, Touch Target, Figure 8's, Head Down, Paws on Arm, and Ring Bell.  I'm VERY proud of him.  He also had some free play time at the end of class with Tess.....his  doggie crush.  They had such a fun time running and chasing each other! The excitement and happiness just pours out of him.  At one point, they were chasing each other around this wall, and Brutus was stopping and peeking through the holein it at her on the other side.  It was the cutest thing ever.  Next time, I will definatly video tape, don't know why I didn't think of it earlier!   So he also achieved his NTD, Novice Dog Trick, Title.  http://domorewithyourdog.com/pages/trickdogtitle.html  You can check this link to see what it's all about.  His trainer, Silke, is an Certified Dog Trick Trainer.  You can also see he name listed under the novice and intermediate titles with her dogs, Eddie & Ronya.  As soon as I send in the slip I'll receive my Title certificate, and Brutus and I will be listed on the web site too!  I'll surely be reposting when it's listed!

Last of 6 trick class

Well tonight is the last of my 6 trick classes.  Bruts will attempt to get his Novice Trick Dog (NTD) Title tonight.  He need to know 15 tricks under the easy category.  He knows 15 tricks, and does them well at home.... it's just getting him to preform them at class tonight!  He's often excitable while around other dogs.  We will attempt 15 of these 18 :  Back up, Come, Doggie Push ups, Down, Jump over a bar, Kisses, Place(circle to my left), Sit, Stay, Shake (both paws), Spin Circles, Bow, Touch Target, Paws on my Arm, Crawl, Head down, Walk through tunnel, Honk horn.  Wish us luck !

Only Me!

Ok, so it was a relatively quiet day at home with Brutus.  He likes to "go do laundry" with me.... which I started since he has been able to go up and down the basement stairs.  Mainly because I can't leave him unintended, secondly, because he's like my shadow in the house.  Well, his new game is to steal the laundry.... from the floor, the baskets, and even the dryer!  Cute, but annoying.

Next, on to some doggie bone making.  Parmesan Twists, and Parmesan Pretzels.  I have to say these smelled good enough to eat.  Brutus supervised the session, had a few samples, and didn't even have to steal any today!

Then some quiet time in the yard.  NOT !  Well, it started that way.  I was bust cleaning up the yard and Brutus was taking in the fresh air on the back porch.  A lady came walking by with her Weim......  I looked at Brutus, he hadn't noticed him..... but I knew it was only a matter of moments.  RIGHT!  He notices him, flies down the stairs, as the lad stops to let her dog greet him.  Bad idea!  Well when Brutus hit the fence, and started ti bark, in his deep voice.... she was ready to leave.  I was frasntic, because I know he's capable of jumping the fence.  As he hit the fence, I grabbed his collar..... as she was walking away to get past us, Brutus kept running... with my fingers wrapped in his collar.  I hit the ground, and I swear he dragged me across the yard.  ONLY ME!!!!!!!  Wow!  This dog is a powerhouse!  Luckily, in all this, he didn't jump the fence.  Now  this doesn't top him jumping through the window, but is definatly a memorable moment in the life of me and Brutus.............

Brutus, 5th nosework class

Today's Nosework class~ Held at Paws-itively Obedient Dog Training School

This is a picture of the beautiful facility , Paws-itively Obedient Dog Training School.  An awesome place to learn agility.  Numerous jumps, ramps, weave poles, tire jumps, tunnels..... this is just a shot of some jumps and the weave poles.  The day was great!  Brutus had a lot of fun again, and he did a great job.  He wore his belly band for the first time in public.... save me a lot of cleaning up, because there were a lot of poles he really wanted to lift his leg on!  He had good runs today, except for one when he decided to check out the facility, since it was his first time there.  We did more non-access to the food training, and hiding under objects, and heights.  Brutus had a great run with the hide being under a chair.  It's so fun to watch him WORK.... and see how happy he is doing it.  One more class left for beginners class.  Then practice sessions, once a week, until the intermediate class.

Spoiled Rotten Homemade Dog Treats......Taste Testers

My niece, Isabel, future star of the Spoiled Rotten Homemade Dog Treat Commercial, with her dogs Baily, Darby, and Glacier, taste testing the bones........ coming soon to a theater near you!

5th Nose Work Class today.

Well today will be our 5th Nose work Class.  Beginners class is winding down with only one more class after today.  Today's class will be held at Paws-itively Obedience Dog Training School.  It's located between McEwensville and Turbotville, so quite a hike for us today.  I've never been there before, so it should be an intresting drive.  Anyone who knows me, knows how much I like driving in unfamiliar places!  Here's the link, check it out:  http://www.pawsitivelyobedient.net/album1_002.htm  It should be a fun, tiring day for Brutus.  Have some new meat scents in his container today..... kielbasa, and garlic meatballs, along with the canned chicken he loves.  He will be wearing his belly band out in public for the first time today.... but only for his nosework runs.  I dont want him lifting his leg all over someones indoor facility, nor do I feel like cleaning up after him all day either!  He'll be gifting some new tuna bones to the other doggies in the class today... hope they like him as much as Brutus does.  Bailey and Darby, my brothers dogs, seemed to love the sampler bag of treats I sent out to Ohio to them.  I'll post the video later!

Brutus "waits" for breakfast

This is Brutus waiting for his breakfast.  Very hard task for him since he is such a food motivated dog.  I started teaching him "wait" entering and exiting the front door and eventually for his food.  He use to plow me over when I would try to walk his food into the other room.  He still gets excited and runs and jumps like a bunny when I walk to the other room, but now he waits patiently until I tell him "OK."

Dog Trick Class Update

Well, Brutus did ok at class again.  He's so unfocused when he's there.  He only has eyes for Silke, the trainer, when we are there.  I'm practically invisible!  Wew started new tricks.... heads down, ringing a bell, figure eights through our legs, honking a horn, and introduced a basin, for different tricks.  Heads down went well.  I'm sure at home in the quiet atmosphere he'll do even better.  Figure eights was challenging for me... 5'2'' tall having a rottweiler go under your legs is intresting to say the least.  Ringing the bell went well.  He's pretty good at touch targeting, so had no problem touching the bells. Eventually I would like to have him ring the bell to go outside.  I've worked on this trick before, but never really followed through with it.  Honking the bike horn was my favorite!  Off to buy one today to practice.  He caught on quick to the biting the horn, he is a very mouthy dog, so had no problem.  He actually got it to honk 3 times, so I was pretty excited.  The basin will be used for tricks like circling it, paws up on it, standing on it, putting things in it..... we'll see what happens there.  I'me pretty sure I can eventually teach him the "step up", been considering this trick for a while.  He also got some free play time with the sweet little doggie in his class..... Tess.  They has fun, he did well, and I think he may have a bit of a crush on her now! He'll be off to Petco with me today, so he should have a pretty good day in store for him.  Also making the tuna dog bones today... so yummy treats for him to taste test later!

101 Dog Trick Class

Tonight we are off to our Dog Trick Class.  Hopefully Brutus behaves!  He's really been throwing temper tantrums lately.

Brutus & the Hula Hoop

This is Brutus and the Hula Hoop.  Brutus is suppose to be jumping through the Hula Hoop.  Instead, he's destroying it!  I did get him to jump through once, walked through a few times, and plowed through twice.  Other than that....... just reshaping the hoop!

Not too much planned for today....

Not too much planned today for Brutus.  Hopefully less drama than the dive through the window yesterday.  We've done one practic session this morning, and a few more to come today.  Brutus will still not rollover for me anymore.  This ia a trick he's been doing for months, and has given up now.  I seriously think he can't get himself to roll.  I think those last 8 pounds did him in!  :)  He's relaxing with his Kong now....

What's this?

So Brutus is like " hey, what's this in the window? This doesn't look the same as it did before when I escaped!"

Fort Knox!!!!????

My house is starting to look like Fort Knox with all these gates up! Baby gates in the window...great idea Stephanie, thanks again. Hopefully it keeps him in the house.

Unbelievable!

Brutus just jumped through this window to get outside in the yard because a dog was walking by. Through the screen, and broke the frame! Guess I won't be opening the front windows this summer. It will be a hot summer or I'll be having a high electric bill running the AC.

Refresher Class

Brutus is off to an Obedience Refresher class tonight.  And boy does he need it!  So do I !

Tornado!

This is what happens when I don't give Brutus my full undivided attention. A tornado goes through the room! Boy, I wish I would have known in advance what a poor selection couch style I chose..... How can you be TOO mad at such a cute face!

Ashamed to say this....

Ok.... I am ashamed to say this... but I love the male belly wrap.  I', definatly going to buy more.  This help so much with his spriztin in the house... and if it keeps his from getting neutered for another year... I'm in!  Although you need extra for when they do spritiz in them.  Right now, he's diaperless..... it's in the wash!

So tired!

Well This is what Brutus looked like on his way home from NoseWork class.  Mentally and Physically exhausted!  I love it!  I usually get some quiet/ calming hours after we get home, and he's generally more relaxed the rest of the evening.  Class was fun once again.  And you can see by the photo that Brutus really enjoys it.  Today we started with the "hide" having boxes on top of one another, the "hide" not being accesible, (except to Brutus who just crunched the container to pop the lid off) and the "hide" being put on chairs, not on the floor.  First run he did well.  Found the hide, but wasn't able to eat what was inside.  Second run, had a harder time, and didn't find it.  Silke said it's possible that since he wasnt able to eat it the first time, that he wasn't caring if he found it.  Of course she said, not to worry about it.  The owner shouldnt get upset about it that this is suppose to be a fun class for the dogs!  Made it a little easier the next couple runs, letting him access to the "hide" and he did well.   Did an excellent job with the "hide" on the chairs.  Found them easily.  Be sure to check out the videos.  Next weeks class will be at Paws-itively Obedient Dog Training School in Watsontown.
